First of all, Yoreganics should win an award for the coolest name.  “In the days of yore…life was simple and cleaning was natural”.  That’s there motto, but I think it should be:  “In the days of yore… products had to actually work and so that’s what we do.”  Not as catchy, but oh-so-true.

In order to do a better laundry product review, I did some true product testing.  Ok, my home isn’t sterile like a lab should be… in fact I can’t think of anything sterile within these walls.  However, I received a sample of the Yoreganics products and I put them through the ringer!  Here are my deep thoughts:

recent family photo... keep reading and you'll know why I posted it :)
Da Soap Nuts.  These are dried fruit berries.  I’ve heard of soap nuts before and it always kinda blew my mind and weirded me out.  I mean, LOOK AT THEM!  However, I washed hubby’s STANKY yard work clothes (we live in hot humid PA, so stanky is actually an understatement)… as clean as they could be and as fresh as I’d hoped.  I also washed cloth diapers… hmmm… seem to be clean and fresh.  Ok, so these are cool.

Da Stain Remover.  Organic stain remover… well just where does it get its power?  I tried this on some blueberry juice that dripped onto my daugther’s party dress on her birthday.  I should mention, that I didn’t notice this stain till a week after her party when I was ironing the dress for a photo shoot (ok, can’t resist sharing a pic of my babe in said dress).  I misted the stain with this product, washed with soap nuts… GONE BABY GONE!  This product went STRAIGHT into my purse for on-the-go stain treatment.

Da Lip Balm.  Light minty smell with a slight tingle.  However, like most chapsticks that tingle, Yoreganics doesn’t make my lips more chapped!  Plus, I am a bit of a show-off and so I like using organic lip balm in public (silly, but honest!).

Da Brightens & Whitens.  I’ve saved the BEST FOR LAST.  This product is AMAZING!  I use IKEA white baby wash clothes to clean “the beast” (my baby girl) after each meal.  I also live in the country and have well water.  I’m telling you these things so that you understand that Zel’s wash cloths are DISGUSTING even when they are clean!  All whites get dingy from our water and once that is combined with the food particles all over Zel… there is no hope.  OR SO I THOUGHT!  Check out the pics of my product testing experiment:

I'm fascinated by these soap nuts!! I read the "fact sheet" and learned that not only do you use the same nuts for multiple loads but after you are done with them you can compost them!! The "shake test" sounds easy and convenient to determine if you can still use them.

I follow you on facebook, google connect (I think. . . ) AND through e-mail.

I leave so many comments that I'm surely a blog-stalker. not that it wins me anything! ;-) But I'm happy for the others.

And I noticed that she sells a foaming body wash in lavender- my favorite smell.

I'm psyched about the soap nuts because I used them in Germany and LOVED them! I thought I'd be able to find them here, so I gave the rest of what I had away, but they're not around that I've seen. I'm also curious about the whitener. I think I'll order up a batch. I'm sick and tired of oxyclean- it doesn't seem to do anything! (though I did put some in my toilet bowl last night and this morning, everything was fresh and white in there.)

I'm pretty fascinated by these soup nuts too. I often have thoughts about all the chemicals we use in our everyday lives like Kim talks about in on her website. Although I'm not always motivated to try to reduce the chemicals and toxicity around me, Kim makes a really good point about our skin being our largest organ and how much contact we have with the chemicals used to clean our clothes. Maybe this is a change I'll grab a hold of.

So I'm fascinated by these. Like you, I think they sound kinda wierd, but I also want to try them to see what I think.

Seriously, I think my inlaws are going to disown me after becoming such a greenie... and it's all your fault :)

The thing about the company that I read was that the creator turned to finding more natural ways of cleansing after she had her own issues with chronic pain. Through a holistic approach, she managed to relieve herself of that pain and become interested in how toxicity affects our health.

All in all, it's one of those things I want to try... but I'm afraid my hubby would think I took it one step too far ;) So maybe by winning a sample, I can prove how awesome natural living is.

I visited the site and read through the green clean class page and learned a few things but also re-confirmed I'm on the right track. A good feeling! I love the idea of these soap nuts and would love to try them out. Not sure why I haven't so this would be a great reason to do it! Thanks for the cool giveaway.
