I’m going to highlight an Etsy shop once a month (maybe more) on a Thursday. Etsy is a social commerce website where anyone can “open” a shop to sell their crafts or antiques. If you ever spent time on Etsy, you know that there is SO much great stuff. I LOVE buying directly from the crafters and even more, I love hand made products! So, I’ll spend the time window shopping and introduce you to the greenest and the coolest shops around! This week, I’m highlighting DOMESTICALLY GREEN and her uber cool wool dryer balls. Congratulations to KATHY from www.yourorganicchild.com for winning the YoreGanics Laundry Products Sampler! Kathy is a soul mate blogger and I learn a lot from her blog. So, take a minute, read a few posts, and tell CONGRATS for being a winner (I'm saying it that way so that those of you who keep telling me that you feel like a loser for not winning will know that once again, you're a loser ;)
I was thrilled when ThermaPod Mini found ME ‘cause I was just gearing up for a big lunchbox research project. Oh the things I do for my readers J. I read every single thing on their website and fell IN LOVE with this product. It was designed by a mom of FOUR BOYS (gulp) who happens to be married to a guy with the skills and connections to take her ideas and do something about it! (psst: Click "Read More" for review & giveaway) First of all, Yoreganics should win an award for the coolest name. “In the days of yore…life was simple and cleaning was natural”. That’s there motto, but I think it should be: “In the days of yore… products had to actually work and so that’s what we do.” Not as catchy, but oh-so-true. In order to do a better laundry product review, I did some true product testing. Ok, my home isn’t sterile like a lab should be… in fact I can’t think of anything sterile within these walls. However, I received a sample of the Yoreganics products and I put them through the ringer! Here are my deep thoughts: (Click Read More for product review & giveaway) Of course, everyone who entered one of these giveaways is a WINNER... mother earth told me so (I heart being corny). I was RIDICULOUSLY excited each time I pressed "generate" on the random number generator! I will be contacting these winners shortly (note to winners: if you read this before I get ahold of you, feel free to email your address to lazygreenmama[at]gmail[dot]com and save me the trouble of finding your email.)
Note: I had to hand write out the numbers because I encouraged people to be {lazy} and use one comment to list all of their entries. If you'd like to see my chicken-scratch system, I'll be happy to scan it and email it to you! Tymptome Tom-Tom: #7 Mary Beth (mandatory entry- loves ALL the designs) Thirsties: #27 Jackie @ 3 Little Ones (for blogging about event) *i allowed Mary Beth and Jackie to switch because Jackie has little ones in diapers and Mary Beth runs a Day Care. If not... you have through JULY 8th to enter all six!
Here on the Kosker pseudo-homestead, I'm super busy preparing for Zel's first birthday! Cob, hubby/dada, came up with the brilliant (I know, I was surprised too!) idea to make a chocolate ZUCCHINI cake for the birthday cake. That way it's kinda healthy and we get to incorporate some of our delicious fresh CSA veggies. I'm then going to attempt to make an owl out of the cake... the theme is "Look Who's turning 1!". I've never decorated anything, baring some hideous Christmas cookies. I'll post the pic of the cake for your entertainment. Fortunately, I roped a cousin into helping me decorate it... so I plan to blame it all on her if it looks scary! Other LMG things happening here: I stocked up on ingredients to make more laundry detergent. I had hoped to make it and give it as bday favors, but I don't have enough containers to repurpose (and maybe I'm feeling {lazy{). Also, Cob just bought two pulleys and a LONG clothesline. He's going to erect a clothes line that starts at the bathroom window (next to the dryer) and goes 30 feet out to a tree! I can't wait to simply open the window, hang clothes, and pat myself on the back for saving energy :) While you're waiting to find out if you won any of the giveaways, feel free to "people watch" and enter some giveaways hosted by some of my bloggy friends: Cool Moms Cool Tips: Sprout Baby Food giveaway. A cornucopia of delicious foods for your mini-me. or how 'bout this one: Barley and Birch organic onesie or tee. (actually, don't enter this one 'cause I want it really badly ;) KIDDING!) or this one: Derma e Natural Skin Care Natural Baby Giveaways: Jessica promotes other bloggers' giveaways focused on CD/ natural/ organic... WARNING: this can easily suck-up an hour of your day...everyday! One stop shopping folks! Your Organic Child: A BPA free container set! (enter if you must, or you know... don't and increase my odds ;) GOOD LUCK! I, like most woman, have a weakness for bath and body products. Over the past 10 years, I have moved 5 times, each time I move at least 2 boxes of bath & body products and VOW to purge. That purge… still waiting for just the right time. However, those boxes of products are full of things that I really don’t love, but are still useful and so it seems wrong to get rid of them. For Zel, I’m taking the time to be picky about her b&b products. Skin is the largest organ so if I’m going to be careful about the things that enter her body… I best start with what goes on her skin. Babo Botanicals are the epitome of what I was looking for. The founder, Kate, has worked for larger companies and has created this product with the highest expectations and standards. Spend a few minutes on their website and I’m sure you’ll agree that she’s doing all the hardwork, we’re simply reaping the benefits! (Please “Read More” for product review and giveaway!) It’s a wonderful coincidence that this giveaway event falls over Independence weekend. What better way to celebrate our (or my if you’re from elsewhere) country, then by taking one more {lazy} GREEN step? Today is my grandparent’s 62nd Anniversary. Wowsers! They are the King and Queen of reusing/ repurposing (note: don’t ask my husband about the shed of coffee cans and butter tubs he had to empty. 30 years of ‘em… twas a lot of work!). All joking/heckling aside, they truly are skilled at repurposing everything AND being content to use things until they wear-out (something that actually drives me a bit crazy, but I’m working on growing in this area!). ReUsies are the green alternative to plastic baggies. I was thrilled to receive a snack and sandwich ReUsie to review because I’m always a bit embarrassed by my use of plastic baggies. It’s like having “FRAUD” stamped on my forehead during lunch! (Please “Read More” for the product review & giveaway) When you’re in the market for an eco-lovin’ baby or kid gift, your first idea is probably a wooden toy. Simple, elegant, beautiful wood. It’s my weakness. I once cancelled a Spring Break trip (which I couldn’t afford) to Florida in exchange for building a wooden bed frame with my dad. My dad has a dream woodshop. I think my husband wanted to move next door just for the woodshop. Needless to say, along with a top-rate music education from her Grandma, Zel will be skilled in woodworking at a very young age. Lucky girl (luckier grandparents). I found Dad’s Wooden Toys on Etsy when I was looking for gift ideas that fit with my goal of buying green gifts. I’m in love with the simple designs and clever poetic descriptions. (Please click “Read More” for the product review and GIVEAWAY!) For a new blog, I have written about laundry A LOT! It makes sense… I do a lot of it and I enjoy it (GASP! I finally admitted it. I actually get mad at my husband if he “helps” and does a load. The whole {lazy} thing must just be a cover to hide this fact!). One of the first companies I contacted to join this BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZA was Nellie’s. I’ve seen them in the Gaiam catalog for quite awhile and the time was finally right to try it out. My laundry needs have grown exponentially with the arrival of Zel and I really dislike buying baby-only detergents (ie expensive), but she has sensitive skin… (psst: click Read More!) |
