Drastically Reduce Your Pantry Clutter ::  THRIVE Tomato Powder Recipes

First, let me confess something... I am a pizza addict   I make it almost weekly.  But in this house, when we have pizza night, we have (jutting out chest and raising nose)...homemade pizza dough slathered in melted butter & garlic, homemade marinara sauce, extra extra cheese & tons of veggies on top.  I set the bar high only because I LOVE PIZZA so much!

THRIVE's Tomato Powder was probably the first product review I read online and though I'm not typically a tomato product connoisseur, I was quite intrigued.  For pete's sake... I have about 2 feet of pantry space just for tomato products:  Tomato Sauce, Marinara Sauce, Tomato Soup, Tomato Paste, Tomato Juice...  Seriously, does anyone else have a disproportionate of pantry space allocated for tomato?

THRIVE's Tomato Powder does not contain any salt!  That's great if you're trying to reduce your sodium... however these recipes will taste slightly different from store bought unless you add a little salt!  I recommend 1/2 tsp salt for every 1/2 cup of Tomato Powder.

The Tomato Powder thickens up as it sits.  To get a nice, thick consistency from the get-go, mix the Tomato Powder with hot water.

I haven't made all of these recipes...yet, but I plan to print this post and have it handy for the next time I need a tomato product!  These delicious recipes are used with permission from YourOwnHomeStore.com & WhyWeThrive.com

THRIVE Marinara Sauce

*I keep ALWAYS have this in my freezer, ready to go.  Granted, it takes about 3 minutes to mix together, but I like to make a lot all at once and save getting the spices out :)  {lazy, who?}

Ingredients:
2 c water
1/2 c THRIVE Tomato Powder
2 T- 1/2 c brown sugar (I prefer about 4 T, but this is completely adaptable to your tastes!)
2 t Garlic Powder
1 t Dried Oregano
1 t Dried Basil
1 t Dried Parsley
1/2 t Celery Seed
1/2 t Dried Dill Weed

Directions:
Mix all the ingredients together.  Toss in meat or veggies for a great lasagna sauce OR simmer over low heat until it's a thicker marinara consistency.  Then invite Julie, the Lazy Green Mama, over for pizza night!

THRIVE Tomato Soup

Ingredients:
5 cups water
3/4 to 1 cup of THRIVE Tomato Powder
1/2 cup THRIVE Instant Milk
1 T THRIVE FD Carrots
3 T THRIVE FD Celery
1 T THRIVE FD Onions
1/4 t Salt
1 t Basil
1 T Sugar

Directions:
Mix all ingredients and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat.  Simmer for 10-15 minutes.  If you like a chunkier soup, dig in.  If you like a creamier soup, blend it in a food processor or blender.

THRIVE Ketchup

Ingredients:
1 c THRIVE Tomato Powder
3.5 c water
1/3 c honey or sugar
1/3 c apple cider vinegar
2 T THRIVE FD chopped onions
1/2 t garlic powder
1 t salt
1/2 t pepper
1/2 t dry mustard
1/8 t all spice

Directions:
Combine all the ingredients and bring to a boil, stirring frequently.  Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes until desired consistency.

Yields about 22 ounces of ketchup... with nothing unpronounceable in it!!!

tomato paste: 2 parts tomato powder to 1 part water, but then you say 6 T powder to 1T water to make a 6 oz can of tomato paste. I understand, and I thought 2:1 would not be thick enough for paste, but I thought you might want to change the recipe on your website.
Thanks!

I tried the tomato paste recipe and 1 Tbsp of water is not nearly enough to make the tomato paste with 6 Tbsps (equivalent to 1/2 cup) of the powder. I had to keep putting it back under the faucet to add just a bit more and a bit more... probably did that 4 more times. Will try it again sometime using the Tbsp as a measure to see how much more water is added. Thought you might like to know so that the recipe above can be updated. I'm looking forward to trying all the THRIVE recipes. :)

6 T is not quite 1/2 cup. 4 T = 1/4 cup. Maybe that was the issue? Did you add 8 T. of powder (1/2 cup) instead of 6 T?

Hi Misty, I was definitely wrong in my measurements above, but when making the tomato paste, I measured the 6 Tbsps of powder individually and added 1 Tbsp of water. I always follow directions exactly the first time around and then play around with it the next time if it doesn't work for me. Since this was my first time trying the tomato paste, I measured 6 level Tbsps of the powder. Adding the one Tbsp of water just made a clump in the middle of the powder. LOL It was very tasty when hydrated though! :)
